It was out of the cultural change of the 60’s that Compassionate Care Int’l. was birthed. As a Christian wife and mother, I worked part time as a Director of Christian Education. I saw the breakdown of the family take place as I watched event after event bring about the destruction of our culture. The Theory of Evolution laid the groundwork for a revolution against God. The Sexual Revolution, Women’s Liberation, No-fault Divorce, and Open Marriages led to an avalanche of children born out of wedlock which led to legalized abortions, an increase in homosexuality and pornography which has now grown into a monstrous epidemic of Human Trafficking.
We lost our spiritual moorings and many escaped through drugs, alcohol, and an emptiness that fed the market for “things”, as people searched for meaning to life. Doubting their beliefs youth and adult alike turned to new-age religions, the psychic realm and Eastern religions for truth. Over time, I saw the turning away from the truth of the Bible…a questioning of its relevancy for our times.
During the same period of time however, I was blessed to be a part of the opposite stream of events in our history when the Holy Spirit began to move and people began experiencing God through the very personal presence of the Holy Spirit of God, changing lives and raising up a new generation of believers who were empowered by His Spirit. Intercessory prayer and teachings in Inner Healing began to grow as the country prayed for God’s Spirit to empower His people in a season of decay.
Having my family impacted negatively by all these events drove me closer and closer to God and to embrace the truth of God’s Word. As an intercessor, I learned everything I could about the power of prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit. Men of God with amazing courage began to step forward to speak the truth, and to teach of the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit swept the country and began to challenge the lies of the enemy.
As my family was impacted by all the changes in our cultural I went back to school to complete my B.A. degree in Religious Education in 1972. I was seeking TRUTH as to why people do what they do. As problems grew both in the culture and my family, my studies swung in the direction of family counseling, and in 1981, I graduated with my M.A. in Counseling and began counseling out of the church I attended. Two years later, in 1983, due to the heavy need for Christian counseling, I founded and incorporated Lighthouse Christian Counseling Services as a nonprofit organization. The blending of psychological theories and God’s principles of healing made a profound difference in Christian Counseling. The monumental healings caused a groundswell of need for healing of those wounded by sexual abuse and ritual abuse.
It was out of my 40 years experience as a mother, parent, Director of Education, a Parenting Educator and as a Licensed Professional Counselor that Compassionate Care Int’l. came to be. As God had prepared me, He used me to counsel those who were broken-hearted, lost, abused. Recognizing the growing numbers of sexual abuse survivors, I began establishing groups, classes and seminars on the subject of sexual abuse and how to help survivors. It was not long before those who had long-term mental and emotional issues began to come for help and healing and I was inundated with survivors of Satanic Ritual Abuse which opened up a whole new level of understanding and need for specialized care.
In 1992, while in the process of trying to establish a help-line for people who needed to receive Christian help and healing, the Lord led me to write a manual entitled THE PATHFINDER; A quick reference and intervention guide for pastors, counselors, doctors and other caregivers. This manual is being updated now through Lighthouse Counseling Services, Inc. for use on the internet.
In 1996 the Lord assigned me two tasks;
Which brings me to the third assignment God gave me. Just two months before my retirement from counseling in 2002, my husband died. The Lord told me I would not have time to grieve, that He was giving me an assignment and told me I would be writing a Case Study of one of the worst case scenarios of my professional experience. It was not long before I received a call from another state from a former client who had been running from God for ten years. God was sending her back to me for help, but God’s plan was for us to write her story something He had told her she was to do earlier, but she ran, refusing to tell her story, but she knew she had been running long enough. This book is to be called RUTH.
Over the past ten years, I have been writing and researching this Case Study. In the midst of that, the Lord directed me to use the research I had already found to develop a course for trauma survivors. That course and subsequent book was entitled: Why We Can’t “Just Get Over It”; Healing the lasting effects of prolonged stress and trauma which has changed lives and equipped leaders all over the world to understand PTSD and other mental, emotional and behavioral problems rooted in TRAUMA.
The book RUTH: Secrets of the Silenced Voices – Guide to working with people with Dissociative Identity Disorders is in its final stages of completion and will debut this year, 2012. It will be used to train and equip professionals who work with severe trauma, especially Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Our SCHOOL OF RUTH will incorporate all the above; the Pathways to Hope and Healing, Why we can’t “Just get over It”, the Care-Giver Training program and RUTH. All teaching the same message: THAT IT IS GOD’S ETERNAL TRUTH THAT ILLUMINATES THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, AND DISPELS THE LIES EMBEDDED IN THE WOUND AND THEREBY HEALING THE WOUND AND SETTING THE CAPTIVES FREE.
The call upon my life and upon those who subscribe to the healing power demonstrated in the work of this ministry is from Isaiah. 63: 1-6
To bring good news to the oppressed, To bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives, And release to the prisoners;
To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn; To provide for those who mourn in Zion -
To give them a garland instead of ashes; The oil of gladness instead of mourning,
The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. They shall build up the ancient ruins,
They shall raise up the former devastations; They shall repair the ruined cities,
The devastations of many generations.

It’s New, It’s Revised, It’s Finished!!!
Yes, the new, revised Pathways to Hope and Healing is finished! The new book has all the contents of the 2010 publication, but contains the secrets of God’s healing touch in ways that we have not published before. We have found these principles of healing to be effective with all mankind we have ministered to including people in China and Ethiopia. No matter the ethnic background, God’s Word rings TRUE!
In Chapter Three, The Windows to the Soul section includes principles taught in the Jo-Hari Window, a theory that teaches the importance of honest feedback and transparency in developing healthy relationships and in discovering who we are. In this section, we begin providing tools to assist people develop self awareness and self understanding. We learn through practicing these tools that openness and honesty and being transparent builds trust and assists in bringing about self-awareness that helps us understand how we became who we are.
Also in Chapter Three we reveal to you the CYCLE OF ILLUMINATION; the technique refined over the past ten years to help people uncover the source of pain in their past that has shaped them in ways that are very painful and troublesome. It also includes the new STEPS OF ILLUMINATION (formerly MIND RENEWAL) which we have tried in all our seminars in the past two years, and have found them to be absolutely life transforming. These tools assist in dispelling the lies of the past that have misshaped how people see themselves, replacing the old broken self identity to free the NEW SELF to come forth.
We have discovered God’s light, which is truth, dispels the lies of the enemy, and provides a trail of sights, sounds and feelings that can be traced to the lie embedded in the original painful memory. Renewing the mind means seeing through God’s eyes the lies we have believed and have God replace the lie with His Truth.
“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6
In Chapter Seven, The Family Systems Model, includes new material that contains biblical principles of setting healthy boundaries that strengthen and build families. These boundaries add strength to the family unit and guide parents in providing an atmosphere conducive to developing the God-given character that will form children and allow them to better stand up against the world’s culture and grow and develop according to God’s plan.
Pathways to Hope and Healing has been taught all over the country; changing lives of women in prisons, the lives of survivors of severe abuse, bringing amazing healing. We have taught this class in China three times and now have a training center in Wuhan, China for people who desire to bring healing to the people of China. In January, 2012, we took a team to Bihar Dar, in Ethiopia where we taught the psychologists and other caregivers of the children and widows at Grace Center, a home for survivors of the HIV-AIDS epidemic of recent years. We have been asked to train leaders there so they can eventually provide their own healing and training center.
Pathways to Hope and Healing is the core of the healing process taught at our Training Center where we equip people to become Compassionate Care coaches. The class Why We Can’t “Just Get Over it” is the class that paves the way for healing to begin, followed by the Pathways class. Those interested in receiving total healing and freedom take other classes that equip them with tools and skills to be able to be restored in the image of Christ. Those classes are:
Understanding Grief
Listening for Heaven’s Sake
Speaking the Truth in Love
Boundaries
Lord, Change My Attitude Before It’s Too Late
Additional training is required for those who desire to teach Pathways to Hope and Healing. If you are interested, contact us by to see the dates of upcoming classes.
I was born in Sekela Woreda in Gish Abay Kebele, the source of the Blue Nile, on April 21, 1977 in the Ethiopian Calendar. I am the fourth child of my parent’s nine children. During the time of my birth, my father was sick. He was experiencing mental health problems that lasted for about two months. His wrists and ankles were tied to keep him from hurting someone or disappearing. His brother took him to a church that is 41 km from our town. He stayed there for 40 days with him in the church where he received holy water. With wrists and ankles tied, the holy water was poured down on his body. He was healed and experienced no further mental health issues. After this experience my father lived at the church. He began to teach people about what happened to him and he spent all of his time in the church. My mother felt bad because it was hard to feed her children by herself even though she was such a hard worker. My father came back by 2 or 3 month intervals and soon my mother was expecting another child. It was hard because he did not help her by working, but he gave another child. The neighbor told my mother to marry another man to help her children. My mother said no and explained that she did not want her children to have a step father. She said that she would try her best to raise her children herself and give them good care. Continue reading
